Our Plasterboard Recycling Process
At Nolan Recycling, we specialise in responsible plasterboard recycling. We hand sort all gypsum-based waste before sending it for local processing in Weston-super-Mare. This ensures a low-carbon, fully UK-based recycling loop that supports a cleaner, more sustainable construction industry.

Sustainability in Action
Step 1 - Collection / Arrival
Plasterboard waste is received at our facility via our reliable skip hire services or direct drop-offs from construction sites, tradespeople, and commercial clients.
Step 2 - Manual Sorting & Grading
Our experienced team conducts a visual and manual inspection to ensure the removal of metals, plastics, or other contaminants like adhesives, render, or nails.
This meticulous process ensures clean, high-quality gypsum for reprocessing.
Step 3 - Transport & Processing
After sorting, the plasterboard is baled and transported to our processing partner in Weston-super-Mare. There, the material undergoes de-paperisation; removing the paper liner, and converting the gypsum core into powder. This recycled gypsum is then used to manufacture new plasterboard products, closing the loop within the UK recycling system
At the paper mill, the material is: Pulped using water and mechanical agitation Screened to remove inks, glues, and contaminants. Cleaned and refined into high-quality pulp. Reformed into new products, including: Newspapers, Office paper, Tissue products, Cardboard and packaging
Step 4 - Why It Matters:
Plasterboard landfill is regulated—you cannot mix gypsum with biodegradable waste due to toxic gas risks like hydrogen sulphide.
Recycling costs are significantly lower than landfill or specialist disposal.
Recovering gypsum reduces mining pressure, conserving natural resources.
The recycled gypsum contributes to a true circular economy, reducing reliance on virgin materials.
